East Texas Endorses John Sharp For United States Senate
Texas Leaders Say Sharp is a “Proven Vote-getter Who Knows How To Put Texans First And Politics Last”
(Austin)- United States Senate candidate John Sharp received the enthusiastic endorsement from several State Representatives from East Texas. John Sharp’s list of endorsements rapidly grows as Kay Bailey Hutchison prepares to resign, adding six State Representatives from East Texas.
“Partnering with our public schools to make the most of their scarce resources in the classroom, and making college affordable for middle-class families are hallmarks of John Sharp’s leadership,” Representative McReynolds said.
McReynolds, a veteran lawmaker from Lufkin, said Sharp’s record of commitment to public schools and institutions of higher education shows he recognizes the central role good public schools and colleges play in Texas’ future.
Joining McReynolds in the endorsement were:
Joe Deshotel of Port Arthur
Craig Eiland of Galveston
Stephen Frost of Texarkana
Mark Homer of Paris
Allan Ritter of Nederland
“John Sharp is a proven vote-getter who knows how to put Texans first and politics last,” Representative Deshotel said.
A former State Representative, State Senator, Chairman of the State’s Energy Agency, and Comptroller of Public Accounts, Sharp created the Texas Performance Review, which helped avert a state income tax while saving taxpayers more than $8.5 billion, the Lone Star Card, which eliminated waste and fraud in the federal food stamps program, and the Texas Tomorrow Fund, the popular pre-paid college tuition program that made college affordable for thousands of middle-class Texas families.
Since leaving the Comptroller’s Office, Sharp created the Travis Fund for families of Texas-based soldiers killed in Afghanistan and Iraq, and co-founded Texans to Cure Cancer, the largest anti-cancer initiative ever launched in the state.
John has been married to his wife Charlotte for more than 30 years and has two grown children, Spencer and Victoria.
John is a candidate for the U.S. Senate seat in a special election to be held after Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison resigns her seat this year.
