TEN STATE REPRESENTATIVES FROM SOUTH TEXAS ENDORSE SHARP FOR U.S. SENATE

(Austin) – U.S. Senate Candidate John Sharp continues to rack up impressive endorsements from all parts of Texas.  Sharp added numerous state representatives from South Texas today to his already impressive list of endorsements from all over the state, including State Representative Veronica Gonzales of McAllen and Ryan Guillen of Rio Grande City.

“It isn’t often that we are presented with a candidate who understands the interests of South Texas so well,” Representative Gonzales said.  “This is the opportunity of a generation for our communities to unite behind a leader whose vision matches our own.”

Joining State Representatives Veronica Gonzales and Ryan Guillen are:

Kino Flores of Mission

Abel Herrero of Corpus Christi

Eddie Lucio III of San Benito

Armando Martinez of Weslaco

Rene Oliveira of Brownsville

Solomon Ortiz, Jr. of Corpus Christi

Aaron Pena of Edinburg

Tara Rios Ybarra of South Padre Island

“From balanced budgets, to healthcare insurance reform, to cross-border commerce, John’s expertise will make him a leading member from the moment he walks onto the floor of the United States Senate,” Representative Guillen said.

Leading Democratic U.S. Senate Candidate John Sharp will be in Corpus Christi this Friday, January 29, to participate in a noon forum to discuss the looming federal budget deficit, education, as well as questions from the audience.  He will also be visiting with local supporters later that afternoon, at the Nueces County Democratic Party Headquarters.

A former State Representative, State Senator, Chairman of the State’s Energy Agency, and Comptroller of Public Accounts, Sharp created the Texas Performance Review, which helped avert a state income tax while saving taxpayers more than $8.5 billion, the Lone Star Card, which eliminated waste and fraud in the federal food stamps program, and the Texas Tomorrow Fund, the popular pre-paid college tuition program that made college affordable for thousands of middle-class Texas families.

Since leaving the Comptroller’s Office, Sharp created the Travis Fund for families of Texas-based soldiers killed in Afghanistan and Iraq, and co-founded Texans to Cure Cancer, the largest anti-cancer initiative ever launched in the state.

John has been married to his wife Charlotte for more than 30 years and has two grown children, Spencer and Victoria.

John is a candidate for the U.S. Senate seat in a special election to be held after Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison resigns her seat this year.
